Three-time Olympic gold medallist Stephanie Rice has broken down over a “frustrating” eight-month pursuit to land a new job, revealing she’d been rejected from 130 applications.
The Aussie swimmer, 38, has found God since retiring from elite sport, and relocated her life to Dubai where she lives alongside formerly Perth-based pastor and husband, Mark Lassey.
Following two commercial, director-level roles in the past 18 months, Rice said she had been in a “waiting season” as she manifested the beginning of new work opportunities.
However, in a series of emotional social posts, the former champion said her eight-month search had proven unsuccessful, forcing her to re-evaluate her skills and CV numerous times.
“I’ve applied to over 130 jobs. I’ve made it to the final stage of roughly five different interview processes, and each time they have gone with someone else,” Rice said.
“And to sit here eight months later and literally have nothing to show for all this effort and emotion is so frustrating.”
Rice said one recent opportunity had also led her back to Australia in recent weeks as she awaited further interviewing for a role.
Transparent in the emotional toll her journey had taken, the ambitious Aussie shared vision of herself crying as she grieved months of rejection.
The former swimmer took her latest missed opportunity as a “sign” she should pivot altogether.
Rice said six months ago “God gave me a business idea” which she had envisioned pursuing in addition to full-time work, but has now decided to commit to it more seriously.

After teasing mood boards featuring floral arrangements and European cottages, Rice finally disclosed she would be hoping to fill a commercial need that she herself had been seeking at various stages.
The Aussie described it as a “Prayer board pack — An elegantly curated, all-in-one prayer board kit”.

Rice sought to clarify that her crafty kit was not intended as a vision board or for manifesting, but rather for “having a place to intentionally write out your prayer requests”.
She vowed to dedicate the remainder of 2026 to her latest project.
