Two truck drivers have died in a catastrophic crash east of Perth.
A Volvo prime mover and a Kenworth prime mover, both towing semitrailers, were involved in a head-on collision on the Great Eastern Highway in Meckering about 6.45am Wednesday morning.
The crash sparked a massive fire, with one of the trucks reduced to a shell.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene after receiving a triple zero call from a motorist. Firefighters arrived to find the trucks fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was contained by 7.08am, and controlled by 7.40am.
There are no hazardous materials concerns after first responders initially feared there had been an explosion due to the intensity of the blaze.
Four St John Ambulance crews rushed to the scene, but did not transported anyone to hospital.
Bother drivers, aged 56 and 33, died at the scene.
The highway is closed in both directions, with motorists advised to seek an alternative route.
