Glenn Close is “lazy” with her beauty regime.

The 79-year-old actress has never obsessed about her appearance, explaining that she’s not a “classic beauty”.

Glenn told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I’m lazy. I can’t stand spending time on myself.

“Torture is going to get your nails done. And I’ve never known how to do my hair.

“Actresses who just flock to all the fashion shows – it’s my idea of f****** hell.”

Glenn acknowledges that she’s never conformed to Hollywood’s beauty ideal.

The acclaimed film star said: “To be really beautiful on film, you need a small nose, big eyes and a beautiful mouth. Like Rose Byrne. Meryl [Streep] – she has a much more aquiline nose – and she just was magic on film because of the proportions of her face.

“I’ve never played the beauty. I have a big bulbous nose. My nose is getting bigger, my chin is getting bigger, so I think they’ll meet very soon!

“I’d never have got an Oscar nomination for The Wife if I hadn’t been lit in the way I was. Because you can see my eyes. Two eyes, looking into two other eyes.”

Glenn has enjoyed huge success in Hollywood, but she still has ambitions of returning to theatre work, describing it as her “home”.

The actress shared: “I would love to do something on stage with Penelope [Wilton, who plays her sister in Up to No Good]. She’s so good.

“Oh, I always dream of coming back to the theatre because that’s where I feel most at home. You have the arc of an evening and it’s basically up to you. It’s not up to an editor. And, if it’s a wonderful piece, it’s where you can deepen your craft.”

Meanwhile, Glenn previously admitted to feeling like an “outsider” in Hollywood.

The actress has starred on stage and screen for more than five decades, but Glenn still doesn’t feel like she truly belongs in Hollywood circles.

She told Today: “I still feel like I’m an outsider.

“I still feel there’s caverns of the unknown in me and I’m still waiting for the roles that demand everything ‘cause they’re few and far between.”
