A 24-year-old national-level boxer was found dead along the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway in Uttar Pradesh, triggering panic and grief among her family members. The deceased, identified as Mantsa, was a resident of Unnao district. Her family has accused her friend of murdering her, while police have launched an investigation into the case.

Mantsa had reportedly left her home on November 5 around 12.30 pm, telling her family that she was going to Lal Bangla to purchase wedding items for her niece. However, she did not return home. When her family members tried contacting her in the evening, her mobile phone was switched off.

Her body was subsequently found nearly 40-50 kilometres away from her residence, along the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway in Maharajpur police station limits. Initially, the deceased could not be identified. Her identity was later established as Mantsa, following which her family members were informed.

According to her mother, Sanjana, Mantsa’s mobile phone and some of her clothing, including her scarf and jacket, were missing. The family received information about the incident from Maharajpur police. They said they had already lodged a missing person complaint at the local police outpost and Gangaghat police station after she went missing.

Speaking about her daughter, Sanjana said Mantsa was a national-level boxer and a gold medalist who aspired to make further progress in the sport. She alleged that her daughter’s friend was involved in the murder and urged the administration to take strict action against those responsible.

Mantsa was the youngest daughter in the family. Her death has left the family devastated.

Police have conducted the post-mortem examination and are investigating the case from multiple angles. Investigators are examining Mantsa’s call detail records (CDR) to identify those involved and establish the circumstances surrounding her death. Police are also probing the allegations made by the family against her friend.

The family has demanded a fair investigation and stringent action against the accused.
