Vijayawada Police in Andhra Pradesh arrested three individuals who were allegedly involved in stealing electric bikes worth over Rs 10 lakh in the city.

The accused were identified as Sheik Basha (35), Jakkamsetti Durga Prasad (26), and Syed Yousuf (28), and were caught by the city police while trying to sell the stolen bikes on Monday morning.

According to the police, the main accused, Sheik Basha, used to work as a mechanic and had learned how to fix and repair electric bikes. However, he soon turned to crime in pursuit of quick money and began stealing electric bikes along with the other accused from various parts of Vijayawada.

Reportedly, 22 stolen electric bikes worth over Rs 10 lakh were recovered by the city police from the accused.

The arrest was made possible due to the efforts of Machavaram police inspector Prakash and his team, who used technical evidence to track Basha, who was caught while he was attempting to sell the stolen bikes.

Vijayawada Police have appreciated the efforts of the Machavaram inspector and his team, including sub-inspector AV Srinivas and constables Ramesh, M Subhash Kumar, and A Tarun Kumar Varma.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are being further investigated.
