Apple has officially unveiled iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026. The new software updates for iPhones and MacBooks bring a range of improvements, including faster performance, enhanced Apple Intelligence features, a redesigned Siri AI experience and updated parental controls.
The update is already available in beta and will roll out as a free download later this year. Ahead of the release, Apple has confirmed which iPhone and Mac models will be eligible for the update.

For iPhone users, the good news is that Apple is continuing support for devices going back to the iPhone 11 series. That means anyone using an iPhone 11 or newer model will be able to install iOS 27 when it arrives this fall.
What’s new in iOS 27
Support for new OS also extends to the second-generation iPhone SE and newer SE models. Apple says iOS 27 is focused less on dramatic visual changes and more on making everyday tasks feel faster and smoother. The update promises quicker app launches, faster photo processing, improved AirDrop speeds and refinements to the Liquid Glass design language introduced in iOS 26.
One of the biggest additions this year for Apple’s software ecosystem is Siri AI. Apple describes it as the next generation of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. The company says the assistant can understand personal context, search across messages, emails and photos, answer questions about what’s currently on screen and pull updated information from the web. Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that allows users to revisit previous conversations and continue them across devices through iCloud syncing.
iOS 27 supported iPhones
Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will be available on the following devices:
- iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
- iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)
Now for Mac users, with macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple has officially ended support for Intel-based Macs. The move had been expected after Apple indicated last year that macOS Tahoe would be the final major release for Intel machines. Going forward, an Apple silicon-powered Mac is required to install the latest macOS update.
macOS Golden Gate compatibility
Any Mac powered by Apple’s M-series chips, including M1, M2, M3 and M4 models, will be eligible for macOS Golden Gate. However, several Intel Macs that supported macOS Tahoe are being left behind this year, including:
- MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019)
- MacBook Pro 13-inch (2020, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
- iMac (2020)
- Mac Pro (2019)
Apple says these older Macs will continue receiving security updates for macOS Tahoe, but they will not get the new features introduced with Golden Gate.
macOS Golden Gate features
In addition, Apple is also expanding parental controls and Screen Time tools for MacOS. Some of the new features include easier child account setup, contact approval requests, website access management through Ask to Browse, and stronger Communication Safety protections. Parents will also gain more granular controls over app categories such as Games, Entertainment and Social Media.
Software availability
Developers can already access iOS 27 Developer Beta 1, while the public beta is expected to arrive next month. With the testing cycle now underway, supported iPhone and Mac users can look forward to Apple’s newest software experience later this year.
