For the first time in a 135-year-old Galapagos turtle, a papa has been born.
Goliath, who weighs a whopping 517 lb ( 234 kg ), had finally sired a hatchling after his partner Sweet Pea laid eight eggs at Zoo Miami in January. One baby girl turned up on June 4 after a 128-day incubation.
This is the first Galapagos turtle to hatch at Zoo Miami, achieving both a step and a milestone. Goliath is also the world’s oldest female family, according to Goliath.
Goliath and Sweet Pea, who may be the oldest mother always, are both requesting recognition from Guinness World Records. Zoo Miami hopes to become the oldest mother ever.
Goliath was born on Santa Cruz Island in June 1890, moving to the US in 1929 ( Bronx Zoo ), and moving to Miami in 1981, becoming the zoo’s oldest resident.
Ron Magill, the zoo’s embassy, described Goliath as a hero and said:” He is living proof that where there is a will, there is a way.” He serves as an example to others to not give up hope.
The new larvae lives in its own habitat, which means it is healthy, active, and prosperous.
