In techie Atul Subhash suicide case, the Supreme Court has given the custody of his son to wife Nikita Singhania, accused of abetting Subhash’s suicide along with her family members. A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and S C Sharma took the decision.

The decision came days after Atul’s mother Anju Devi made a plea in the court to allow her custody of the child, which the court declined. The court, at the time, said that Anju Devi is “virtually a stranger” to the child, and therefore the child’s custody should not be given to her.

Anju Devi had requested the court to grant the custody of his grandchild to her and argued that children of this age should not be sent to a boarding school. To support her arguments, she cited accusations that Nikita Singhania is facing in Subhash’s death case.

The court had expressed the wish to talk to the child and interacted with him online through video conferencing. Atul Subha’s child is said to be studying at a boarding school in Haryana. The court asked for affidavits from the Haryana Government and Singhania on the child’s condition.

The court emphasized that Singhania has not been convicted yet and cautioned against drawing conclusions based solely on media reports about the case.

Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash died by suicide in December last year.
