Louise Bezzina has been announced as the new CEO and artistic director of the Brisbane Powerhouse.
Bezzina will begin her appointment in October after delivering her sixth Brisbane Festival in September.

She takes over from Kate Gould, who has headed the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm for four years.
Bezzina founded the Gold Coast Bleach Festival, was a co-creative lead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Cultural Program, and has been Brisbane Festival’s artistic director since 2019.
“Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and precincts like Brisbane Powerhouse have helped shape our incredible city and I am so honoured to be chosen as the next guardian of its future,” Bezzina said.
Brisbane Powerhouse hosts more than 1500 performances each year and welcomes more than 1 million visitors.
The program for Bezzina’s final Brisbane Festival will be announced on June 11.
Albanese has failed to condemn the Labor candidate for posting fake, altered memes of Dutton as a Nazi or anti-Israel memes.
First reported on News.com.au, Labor candidate for Dutton’s seat of Dickson Ali France also posted a series of anti-Israel claims, describing defence Coalition spokesman Andrew Hastie as “creepy” and Dutton as a “monster”.
Asked about these posts, Albanese immediately defended France.
“Ali France is an extraordinary Australian and I don’t know what, your tweets are like more than a decade ago … people are going and attacking Ali France as they did during the last campaign,” he said.
“Ali France as a person today is … an outstanding human being. She’s someone who has overcome extraordinary adversity during this time.”
An unidentified body was found in the Brisbane River this week.
The male was spotted by a member of the public near Kangaroo Point about 8.45am on Tuesday.
Water Police retrieved the body from the city side of the river a short time later.
Investigations are ongoing and officers are yet to conduct a postmortem.

Those who heard a rumble in the skies over Brisbane yesterday would be forgiven for asking, “What was that?”
It was a single EA-18G growler from 6th squadron located at the RAAF base at Amberley that flew over the city as part of an Anzac Day ceremony at Anzac Square in the CBD.

Health Minister Mark Butler says Labor will not do a deal with the Greens to form government despite preferencing the minor party second on ballots.
The preference prompted Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie to accuse the government of doing “dirty deals” with the Greens.

McKenzie intervened, accusing Labor of always doing “dirty deals” with the Greens.
“You hold your breath, you hold your nose and then you sign up and actually do the deal, get it done, and that’s exactly what you will do if push comes to shove, if that’s the only way that Albo can become PM, he won’t skip a beat,” she said.
The Coalition has promised to create a national register that shares information on domestic violence perpetrators across states and territories, and make it illegal to threaten partners with phones or computers.

A string of promises includes creating tough new bail laws and making it an offence if people use mobile phones or computer networks to make an intimate partner or family member fear for their personal safety.
The announcement also proposes lifting the threshold for fast-track property settlements in the family law courts, so separating couples with an asset pool of up to $1.5 million can resolve matters that do not involve children quickly and fairly.
Federal Labor will boost mental health support for men in a $32 million bid to break the stigma around seeking support.
The funding aims to help men as Movember statistics reveal they are three times more likely to take their own life than women, two in three men forego health support due to gender stereotypes, and half believe avoiding health check-ups is normal.

Movember will be allocated $11.3 million of the funding to provide men’s health care training to primary health care workers, while $20.7 million will also be invested in grassroots initiatives that support men’s mental health.
This includes $8.3 million to support another two years of Men’s Shed Initiatives, $3 million to Healthy Male to support preparing men for fatherhood, $2 million to the Black Dog Institute and another $7.4 million to Movember’s joint program with AFL “Ahead of the Game”.
