Defending Supercars champion Will Brown is threatening to spoil Triple Eight teammate Broc Feeney’s Tasmania clean sweep bid after claiming provisional pole.
Brown blitzed championship leader Feeney by 0.0437 seconds with a lap time of 50.7620 seconds in Sunday’s qualifying session at Symmons Plains Raceway.
The 26-year-old will have a chance to clinch the pole spot in the top-10 shootout at 11.55am (AEST).
Tickford rival Thomas Randle was third fastest, followed by Team 18’s Anton De Pasquale.
Erebus rookie Cooper Murray qualified fifth, while Cam Waters just made the top 10 by 0.0361 seconds.
Young gun Feeney had jumped to the series lead from fourth on Saturday after claiming back-to-back sprint wins.
He holds a 13-point lead over Tickford rival Waters, with Brown in third.
Chaz Mostert’s horror weekend in Tasmania continued, the Walkinshaw Andretti United star qualifying second-last in 23rd.
Dick Johnson Racing’s Will Davison will start 24th, while teammate Brodie Kostecki will go from 20th.
Both Kostecki and Davison were disqualified from the opener after an investigation following the race found the cars’ skid blocks were tampered with under parc ferme conditions.
Kostecki had finished eighth and Davison 21st.
