Speaking about styling Payal Kapadia for the Festival de Cannes opening ceremony, Indrakshi Pattanaik says, “Payal [Kapadia] is a dear friend. She loves the 80s power suit style and I really wanted to explore that in her look. And Arjun [Saluja] was the best person to execute the vision. Arjun and I have been meaning to collaborate for a while for Payal and I am glad it all fell into place.”
According to Indrakshi, Payal wanted her ensemble to be comfortable so that she could watch the screenings without any hassle. “The idea was more about comfort for Payal. It was like character designing for her, making her look like herself. And given this year’s dresscode theme, which said no sheer, no over the top, no voluminous styles, Payal kept it minimal yet chic.”
Payal paired the grey suit with statement silver jewellery pieces consisting of a choker and multi-layered pendant necklace from Tribe by Amrapali. The Folktale Layered Masaba Thread necklace is skillfully handcrafted in silver-plated alloy, inspired by the Akan Tribe of West Africa to give this style a bold and edgy look. The Charu Thread Choker is crafted from silver with an oxidised finish, adorned with ghungroo droplets.
Joining Payal Kapadia at the 78th Festival de Cannes opening ceremony was Carlos Reygadas, Leila Slimani, Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong, Juliette Binoche, Dieudonne Hamadi, Alba Rohrwacher and Hong Sang.
For the Jury photocall, Payal Kapadia adorned a handwoven silk ensemble designed by fashion designer Payal Khandwala. The celebratory shades of blue and red together added a colourful charm to Payal’s elegant and comfortable style. Payal accessorised with a statement silver necklace from Tribe by Amrapali.
