Cooking is often seen as a love language, and for Harshdeep Rapal, a Delhi-based entrepreneur, it’s one he learned directly from his mother.
In a heartfelt post on X, Harshdeep shared how his culinary journey started under his mother’s guidance and culminated in a sweet surprise for her recent visit.
Along with a photograph of two containers of the classic Punjabi dessert gajar-pak (somewhat similar to gajar ka halwa), Harshadeep wrote: “Like mom like son. My mom started teaching me cooking when I was still in school. By the time I reached graduation, she was teaching me complex stuff like gajar-halwa/gajar-pak. Today my parents came from Patiala and to surprise us she brought gajar-pak. And, to surprise them, last night I made gajar-pak.”

Pointing out the uncanny similarity between the two desserts, he added, “The one in the round container has been made by mom. The one in the square glass container is made by me. Same texture, same color, same consistency, same taste and even the same level of sweetness. The only difference is that she put in dry coconut, I did not. She trained me well.”

The post quickly went viral as users flooded the comments section to applaud the mother-son bond and their shared culinary passion.
“She’s the perfect mother anyone could wish for. Kudos to both of you,” a user said, while another added, “You reap what you sow – she nurtured your skills, and now you both enjoy double the gajar pak and double the happiness.”
The sentimentality didn’t stop there. “Mother’s teaching is always about love and sharing,” a user said, while another quipped, “With so much in excess, why not share a bit with all of us?”
