Virat Kohli looked animated after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by seven wickets in Match No. 37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Chasing a target of 158, RCB reached the total with seven balls to spare. After the win, Kohli turned towards Shreyas and made a wild gesture, expressing his excitement.

Just days earlier, on April 18, PBKS had beaten RCB by five wickets in a rain-curtailed 14-over match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In that game, Kohli fell cheaply to Arshdeep Singh as RCB suffered their third consecutive home defeat. This time, however, Kohli bounced back in style, scoring an unbeaten 73 off 54 balls, including seven fours and a six.

After the match, he celebrated exuberantly. Shreyas approached him, and the two appeared to share a light-hearted conversation, with Kohli in high spirits. The match concluded with Nehal Wadhera hitting a six over mid-wicket, sealing the victory for RCB.

With the win, RCB moved to third in the table with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.472 thanks to wins in five out of eight matches. Kohli, who won the Player of the Match award, said how he along with Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Rajat Patidar plan RCB’s batting.

“Very important game for us. When you go from eight [points] to ten, it makes a massive difference. We’ve set ourselves up nicely… Dev can play around me, maybe Rajat can play around me. There’s always a temptation to keep going the same way,” Kohli said after the match.

“First two games we had learnings, and last game was a shortened game. We know in a run chase in T20 cricket, one partnership is enough. If need be, I can accelerate,” Kohli added.

The Challengers will next be up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday, April 24 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
