Christmas parties at public sites across Western Australia have been cleared overnight, with hundreds dispersed from multiple locations and a DJ charged after he allegedly disobeyed police by turning up the music.
The Fremantle gatherings were cleared in the early morning on Boxing Day, with police dispersing a crowd of about 600 at Booyeembara Park at around 12.30am.
Police say the crowd was dispersed without any issues.
Officers were called to a second party attended by approximately 200 people at Port Beach around 3am, which police believe comprised several attendees of the previous event.
The event was declared an out of control gathering, with the majority of attendees complying with orders to move along.
However, police allege a DJ at the beachfront party ignored multiple requests to shut down the event.
Instead, police claim he turned up the music.
Police seized the man’s DJ equipment and told him to leave the area, which he allegedly failed to do.
The 28 year old from the affluent Perth suburb of Melville has been charged with failing to comply with an order relating to an out of control gathering.
He is set to appear before Fremantle Magistrates Court on January 24.
