A case of cheating involving fraudulent villa bookings in Goa has emerged, affecting around 500 tourists from across the country. One individual implicated in the scam is a resident of Gwalior.
Following the incident, the suspect had been evading authorities in the city. Acting on information received about the fraudster’s location, a joint operation was conducted by Goa Police and Gwalior Police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The Goa Police team then departed with the accused in custody.

The scam was exposed when Pankaj Dhiman, a resident of Chandigarh, planned a trip to Goa and booked the villa online, making a payment of Rs 20,000. However, upon arriving at the provided address, he found nothing, realising he had been deceived. He subsequently filed a complaint at the Anjuna Police Station in Goa. The investigation identified Devesh Parihar, a 30-year-old residing in the Nimbaj Ki Khoh region near Tikaram Chakki in Gwalior, as one of the suspects.
The Anjuna Police team travelled to Gwalior to apprehend the suspect and contacted Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Singh. In response, SP Singh dispatched a Crime Branch team to collaborate with the Goa Police. Using the suspect’s location, the team apprehended Devesh Parihar in DD Nagar area.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly revealed that he and his accomplices uploaded images of various villas on major travel websites. They collected advance payments from tourists under the pretence of making bookings.
Police search is on for three more suspects in Hyderabad and Jaipur.
