Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has defended her passion for edible flower sprinkles, joking that she had been portrayed like a “little fairy tossing them around all the time”.
Introduced as “the founder of As Ever”, the duchess appeared on stage at the fifth annual Time100 summit in New York, ahead of a 15-minute session called “Her Journey”.
Meghan said she was the “happiest that I’ve ever been”, thanks to the support of Prince Harry, who was in the live audience, and her “joyful” children.

She said: “Of all the things that happened, I never would have imagined at this point I’d be so happy and free, and I really do.”
The duchess, who wore a tan trouser suit and crisp white shirt, laughed off the public’s “obsession” with her liberal use of edible sprinkles throughout her recent Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which saw her scatter them on everything from sandwiches to fried eggs.
Speaking to TIME chief executive Jessica Sibley, she said: “Oh my gosh! You’d think I’m a little fairy tossing them around all the time.

“The obsession that has come with flower sprinkles. Of all things we could be talking about … it speaks to the tiny moments of joy that are so effortless and create a little bit of magic we’re all craving every day.”
Meghan admitted she put the sprinkles in salads, scrambled eggs and yoghurt parfait.
She said: “The level of charm people have when they see these tiny little dried petals is something I can’t wrap my head around but appreciate. There is a love for the detail and a small level of delight that can be added.”
Discussing the launch of her new business venture, As Ever, the Duchess said it had been an “incredibly busy and ambitious” 18 months.
However, she said that being a parent offered valuable perspective because “what is seemingly so big becomes microscopic in importance compared to family”.
The event, at New York’s Lincoln Centre, was billed as bringing together “leaders from the global TIME community to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world”.
Other speakers included Netflix chief executive Ted Sarandos, actress Demi Moore, actor Ryan Reynolds and Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
