The NIA has recently questioned high-profile terrorists lodged in Jammu and Kashmir jail during its investigation of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Several jails housing high-profile terrorists and over ground workers in Jammu and Kashmir could see a terror strike, intelligence sources warned on Monday.

Sources indicated that Srinagar Central Jail and Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, are among the jails where the threat of terror attacks looms.

This comes after the National Investigation Agency, probing the Pahalgam attack case, questioned Nisar and Mushtaq, OGWs in the Indian Army vehicle attack case. Both of them are lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail.

In view of threats, DG CISF, RS Bhatti, met the top officials of the security grid in Srinagar on Sunday. Notably, CISF had taken over the security of Jammu and Kashmir jails in October 2023 from the CRPF.

The meeting is being seen in light of the threat to strengthen security further.

As part of the crackdown against terrorists and their networks in Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have questioned suspects and several over ground workers lately. Houses of terrorists suspected to be involved in the Pahalgam terror attack have also been razed.

As many as 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed in the terror strike at Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam on April 22. According to reports, the terror strike was earlier planned in and around Srinagar during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on April 19. However, after his visit was called off due to bad weather, the terrorists planned the strike in Pahalgam, sources said.

The intel sources had warned of a strike in Srinagar, however, there were no inputs of a possible attack in Pahalgam, they added.

Since the terror attack at Baisaran, the videos of which have surfaced online, the government has taken a series of non-military steps against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of visas to all Pakistani nationals living in India and closure of the Attari border.

In turn, Pakistan closed its airspace for all Indian airlines and snapped all pacts with India.

Border tensions have also remained high between the two nations, with Pakistan violating the ceasefire repeatedly and the Indian Army retaliating swiftly.
