Beverly Aikins, JD Vance’s mother, on Monday celebrated her son’s inauguration as Vice President, her 64th birthday, and 10 years of sobriety — overcoming health challenges to share this milestone moment.
Wearing a bright red shirt, Aikins stood out in a crowd of Trump family members and Vance’s wife, Usha, as they gathered for the historic swearing-in ceremony. She even shared a moment with outgoing President Joe Biden before the inauguration began.

Despite recently undergoing surgery for Takatsubo Cardiomyopathy, a heart condition initially mistaken for a heart attack, Aikins was determined to attend. In a Facebook post, she shared, “My recovery is slow, but I have an inauguration to attend on January 20. Nothing will stop me from being there.”
Celebrating Sobriety and a Birthday
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Aikins marked her 10-year anniversary of sobriety on Sunday. At Ohio’s inaugural ball on Sunday, Aikins expressed pride in her son, sharing her joy with the crowd. “I couldn’t be more proud of JD,” she said, according to Butler County Auditor Nancy Nix.
Aikins also celebrated her 64th birthday on Monday, making the weekend even more special for Middletown.
Aikins has overcome significant challenges, including a battle with addiction, which Vance documented in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Her journey from struggle to sobriety resonates deeply with many Americans.
JD Vance, the 40-year-old senator from Ohio, took oath as the 50th Vice President of the United States. He makes history as the first millennial to serve in the role and the first vice president in nearly two decades with young children. Vance hasn’t been assigned a specific portfolio in the White House like some of his predecessors.
