In an uncertain incident, a building in Kolkata tilted during repair work, prompting the swift evacuation of residents from nearby structures.

The incident occurred in Vidyasagar Colony, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Officials from the Disaster Management Group (DMG), along with fire brigade and police personnel, quickly arrived at the scene, according to ANI.

The process of dismantling the affected building is set to begin shortly. A large crowd gathered at the location following the incident.

Speaking to ANI, TMC MLA Debabrata Majumdar said, the incident happened when the repair firm likely attempted to lift the entire building.

Majumdar said, “The building tilted and leaned against the adjacent structure. All residents have been evacuated. While there are no injuries reported, there has been damage to property.”

The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident last week, an under-construction building at the Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh collapsed. Rescuers successfully pulled out all 28 workers from the rubble after a 16-hour overnight operation.

Following the collapse, police filed an FIR against the contractor and an engineer on charges including negligence and endangering lives.

CCTV footage from the site has emerged, showing a laborer trying to fix the shuttering, which is a temporary structure used to support concrete, when the roof collapsed.

The footage indicates that a beam being carried by the worker struck the shuttering, leading to its slip and subsequent collapse.

Two people lost their live on January 11, and several others were injured when part of an under-construction building collapsed on them in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
