Fremantle midfielder Caleb Serong has described Kysaiah Pickett as a special talent as rumours grow the star Demons forward wants to join the Dockers.
Pickett is contracted with Melbourne until the end of 2027, but there’s mounting talk he is keen to return to Western Australia.
The 23-year-old has family links to both Perth and Adelaide, and Fremantle appear to be in the box seat to secure his services.
Pickett will be in Perth next month as part of the Indigenous All Stars clash with Fremantle at Optus Stadium on February 15.
The Dockers could use that opportunity to convince Pickett to join them at the end of 2025.
“There’s a lot being spoken about that,” Serong said when asked about the talk linking Pickett to Fremantle.
“But it’s kind of weird. The trade period from this year just finished a couple months ago and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge.
“A lot can change in a month, let alone 10 months. He’s an incredible player and a special player, and, yeah, we’ll see how it goes.”
Fremantle’s No.1 target during the next trade period will be Sydney superstar Chad Warner, who comes out of contract at the end of 2025.
“He’s a very tough player to play against, so if we can get him in purple, it would make it a lot easier for us,” Serong said.
Closer to home, Fremantle are hopeful of retaining vice-captain Andrew Brayshaw, who has just one more season remaining on his current deal.
“Every day,” Serong joked when asked how often he’s been badgering Brayshaw to re-sign.
“He’s working through that. It’s his decision to make with his family and himself and the people around him.
“Hopefully he can follow (Hayden) Young’s suit and sign long term, that’d be great.
“I know he loves being around the club, and he’s as committed as anyone to bring the club the first premiership.”
Serong gave youngsters Neil Erasmus and Matt Johnson rave reviews for how they’ve prepared during the off-season.
“They’re in ridiculous shape. Like the size of those two for (being) fourth-year guys is unbelievable,” Serong said.
“They’re massive. They’re really physical players as well and I think they’re really embracing that side of the game.
“They understand that that’s going to be their role when they come in – to hit bodies and be really physical.
“They’re moving some crazy weight in the gym.”
