‘Angry’ Kokkinakis rues injury in defeat

Last night was a tough one to swallow for Thanasi Kokkinakis. Having taken Jack Draper all the way in a rollicking five-setter, he was left cursing the return of a pectoral injury, which he says could threaten his career.

“Even if I won, I wouldn’t have been able to play the next match. I’m annoyed. I still had a chance to win,” Kokkinakis told reporters following his Australian Open exit.

“Yeah, I’m angry.”

“I’ve tried to sort it out for years manually, without surgery, just trying to do what I can. It’s the reason why I can’t back up big matches.”

Welcome to day five of the Australian Open

G’day, and welcome back to sunny Melbourne Park for the fifth day of the 2025 Australian Open. The second round continues in the singles draw and we will have four Aussies in action today, headlined by Alex de Minaur on Rod Laver Arena this afternoon.
