Mahesh Gurjar killed his daughter in the presence of police officers and a panchayat just 4 days before her wedding.

In a tragic incident of honor killing, a 20-year-old woman named Tanu Gurjar was shot dead by her father, Mahesh Gurjar, in the presence of police officers and a panchayat just 4 days before her wedding. The shocking event took place on Tuesday evening in the Gola Ka Mandir area of Gwalior. Tanu had openly opposed her family’s arranged marriage decision and had expressed her wish to marry a man of her choice.

Tanu Gurjar was in a six-year relationship with Bhikam “Vicky” Mawai. Just hours before her murder, she shared a 52-second video on social media, alleging that her family had been threatening her life and coercing her into an unwanted marriage. In the video, Tanu stated, “I want to marry Vicky. My family initially agreed but later refused. They beat me daily and threaten to kill me. If something happens to me, my family will be responsible,” explicitly naming her father and other relatives.

After the video circulated, Superintendent Dharmveer Singh and other police officers visited Tanu’s home to mediate the situation. A panchayat community was formed to address the issue. During the intervention, Tanu expressed her desire to be taken to a One Stop Centre for her safety. However, instead of discussing her concerns privately, her father claimed he could convince her to comply with the family’s wishes.

Following the confrontation, Mahesh Gurjar shot his daughter Tanu in the chest with a country-made firearm. At the same time, her cousin Rahul fired shots at Tanu’s forehead, neck, and the area between her eye and nose to ensure her death. Tanu collapsed immediately and succumbed to her injuries. This tragic incident occurred just days before her wedding, which was set for January 18.

The police have arrested Mahesh Gurjar and seized the weapon used in the crime. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend Rahul.
