Muscat: On May 18, the Sultanate of Oman granted membership to 156 foreign nationals who were residing in the nation.
Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik issued Royal Decree No. Following a review of the Omani Nationality Law and the Basic Law of the State, on April 17, 2025.
New laws governing citizen
Oman issued a new set of requirements for foreigners applying for Omani membership in February.
- At least 15 years of continuous mansion in Oman.
- Arabic ability
- A clear legal report
- Economic security
- Good heath, as demonstrated by a health certificate
- Revocation of a person’s past nationality
The Ministry of Interior is then only responsible for processing all citizenship programs. Applications may be rejected without giving an explanation, and judgments may no longer be appealed in court.
Omani citizenship is revoked and restored.
If someone is found to be:
- undermine national surveillance or objectives
- Attack the position or the Sultan.
- work with angry or foreign governments
Yet, the law allows for the restoration of citizenship if the conditions for withdrawal are resolved.
Penalties for submitting false membership programs
Application of false information or fake documents is a crime for those who are found criminal:
- Up to three years in jail
- Charges between OMR 5, 000 and OMR 10, 000

How to apply for membership in Omani: Step-by-step instructions for foreigners
- Applications must be submitted to Oman’s Ministry of Interior.
Fees:
- OMR 600 Public candidates:
- OMR 300 for former spouses or caregivers of Omani individuals
Eligibility requirements:
- Must reside and be legitimately employed in Oman.
- Must not be involved in any legal problems.
- Must meet the following requirements: health, speech, and finances
Records necessary:
- Valid passport and visa
- Personal identification and residency cards
- Marriage certificate ( if applicable )
- papers for the parents and children
- Certificates of good conduct ( Oman and home country )
- Income verification from the workplace
- Embassy’s consent to renounce unique nationality
- Declaration of the desire to revoke the latest passport
- Declaration containing the names and supporting documentation of all young minors
After being approved:
Effective entrants are required to present their Omani card to the Ministry and are expected to continue living in the Sultanate for a long time.
