The arrest of Javed Munshi, a senior member of the banned terrorist organisation Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM), in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district has triggered a political row. The joint operation to capture the terrorist involved the Jammu and Kashmir Police and West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force (STF).
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused the Centre of failing to prevent infiltration and cross-border terrorism.

Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, by saying, “The Border Security Force (BSF) is responsible for border security. If the central government ensures proper sealing of the border, such incidents would not happen.”
Commending the state police’s role in arresting Munshi, Hakim said, “The West Bengal police, under Mamata Banerjee’s administration, have caught terrorists. We have zero tolerance for anti-national activities. Our country always comes first.”
He also urged Home Minister Shah to focus on border security instead of unrelated political matters.
Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumder countered TMC’s allegations, claiming that land issues hinder border security improvements. “We will take 100 per cent responsibility if the Bengal government gives us land for complete border fencing.”
Majumder claimed that Home Minister Shah had requested 70 BSF outpost lands, but none have been sanctioned by the state government yet.
The Leader of Opposition in Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, also criticised the state government, accusing it of harbouring extremists.
“This government is run by terrorists, with faces like Siddiqulla Chowdhury and Mamata Banerjee behind the mask,” Adhikari said.
