In his lengthy post, he outlined the challenges he believes stifle innovation in India, blaming what he called “stupid” regulations for making it nearly impossible to bring groundbreaking ideas to life
An Indian startup founder recently sparked a heated debate on Reddit, urging high-earning professionals to consider leaving the country if they want to pursue true innovation. The entrepreneur, who runs a well-funded business, opened his post with an emphatic call: “Leave India! It’s high time! And I am telling this as someone who runs a well-funded business!”
In his lengthy post, he outlined the challenges he believes stifle innovation in India, blaming what he called “stupid” regulations for making it nearly impossible to bring groundbreaking ideas to life. Sharing a personal experience, he explained how his company handled a fraud case on their app, helped the victim recover their money, and even collaborated with the police. Yet, instead of closure, they faced accusations and were expected to pay a bribe. “This is India for you,” he remarked, expressing frustration at the bureaucratic hurdles.
He also shed light on his struggles with regional biases, recounting incidents where he faced hostility from people like vegetable vendors, auto drivers, and restaurant staff simply because he wasn’t from their region. The entrepreneur criticized what he perceived as a lack of work ethics and lamented the culture of judging people by their appearance or wealth. “If you don’t look rich or wear branded clothes, you are a piece of filth in this country.”
Taxes were another sore point. Despite paying high taxes, he felt government facilities like roads and hospitals remained inaccessible or inadequate. Adding to his grievances was the lack of civic sense. He narrated an incident in Goa where he asked a group of people to dispose of their trash properly. Their response? They told him to either stay out of it or clean it up himself. “Civic sense has gone extinct in the country,” he concluded.
The post ignited mixed reactions, including one user humorously chiming in: “Okay, the day you pack your business and leave, let me know. My bags are packed; I’m just waiting for you to shut shop and leave with me.”
