Odisha weightlifter Harshvardhan Sahu won the gold medal in the 49 kg category at the ongoing Khelo India in Bihar

Odisha weightlifter Harshvardhan Sahu, 16, of Ganjam district is on cloud nine as Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his performance in the recently concluded Khelo India Youth Games on his radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.
Modi said Sahu, among others, won the hearts of every Indian with his brilliant performance. Sahu, his family, coaches, and fans are elated with the mention.

Sahu is a native of Shantinagar in Berhampur, Ganjam district. Sahu won the gold medal in the 49 kg category at the ongoing Khelo India in Bihar. He was previously ranked 202 in the 49 kg category and was ranked 203 in Jharkhand.
Sahu said, “I can’t express how happy I am in words. Prime Minister’s praise will carve a new path in my journey. If I get more support, I will play well for the state and the country”.
“Sahu has brought glory to the state and the country. We are very happy that the Prime Minister has praised him,” said his father Dhaneswar.
Sahu enrolled in Shankar Physical Club in 2022. He was being training by the club’s coach Jitendra Kumar Sahu.
International Weightlifter K. Ravikumar said, “It is a proud moment for all that PM Narendra Modi praised weightlifter Harshvardhan Sahu. The Prime Minister’s praise will encourage all sports talents and show the way forward.”
“Harshvardhan started sports in 2022. Harshvardhan has brought glory to the state and country by performing well in weightlifting. We are happy about the Prime Minister’s mention and Sahu’s success,” said the coach.
