Manipur Police have rejected accusations made by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), alleging that the Superintendent of Police in Ukhrul was involved in supporting Kuki militants.

The underground outfit claimed in a statement on Saturday that the officer had aided the Kuki militants by facilitating the transportation of hidden supplies.

The NSCN-IM specifically pointed to an incident on December 18, in which the Ukhrul police reportedly loaded two Saktimaan trucks and two pick-up mini trucks with rice and tin sheets. The statement alleged that a larger volume of materials, concealed beneath the rice and tin sheets, was not disclosed.

The NSCN-IM’s statement further claimed, “He ordered his policemen to take the items to Molhang Kuki village, telling them it was for the CRPF. When the four vehicles reached Molhang Kuki village, instead of the CRPF, around 200 Kuki militants were found waiting. The Kuki militants hurriedly unloaded the items without allowing the policemen to inspect them. The policemen stood there dumbstruck as the four vehicles were unloaded and emptied.”

In response, the Manipur Police issued a clarification, describing the allegations as “blatantly false”.

In a statement shared on their official X account, the police explained, “Based on a request from the BSF and Kangpokpi District Police, as well as directives from Police Headquarters, Ukhrul District Police provided police guides to the BSF team travelling to Molhang Kuki village on December 12, 2024. Again, on December 19, Ukhrul District Police provided security escorts to trucks carrying labourers and materials for the construction of security barracks in Molhang Kuki village, which will house BSF companies.”

The police urged the public to “verify facts before putting things in the public domain during these sensitive times, when efforts are being made on all fronts to bring peace and restore normalcy in the state”.
