Renée Zellweger was left mortified when someone accidentally tore her 2005 Oscars gown and risked revealing her buttocks.
The ‘Bridget Jones’ star donned a red strapless Carolina Herrera dress to the Hollywood bash and has recalled the train and material around her “booty” being “ripped right off” before she’d even arrived on the red carpet.
She told British Vogue: “First of all, it’s an incredible dress. I love that dress.
“It’s weighted and stuffed at the bottom so that it holds its shape.”
Zellweger continued: “I remember that as we were leaving that night, a gentleman had stepped on the train and I kept walking in the other direction and it ripped it right off my dress.”
The 55-year-old actress had to walk with her hands behind her backside to avoid flashing anyone.
She recalled: “So I walked in with that pose and I left with that pose.
“And there were parties and things afterwards, but I needed to go home and do a little bit of a costume change.”
However, when she returned home, she realised she had forgotten her keys, with Zellweger describing what could be a scene straight out of a ‘Bridget Jones’ film.
She added: “So I had to climb up the balcony to the second floor and climb in through a little bathroom window in that dress with the hole under my booty.”
The ‘Down with Love’ star also revealed she heard a “rumour” that Hugh Grant, 64 – who played one of her love interests, Daniel Cleaver – held onto a pair of Bridget’s “absolutely enormous” underpants.
She said: “But I don’t know if that’s true. We’ll have to ask him.”
Zellweger is reprising the role for the upcoming fourth instalment in the blockbuster rom-com franchise, ‘Bridget Jones: Made About the Boy’, which hits cinemas on Valentine’s Day (14.02.25).
