In a surprise move, Punjab Kings decided to sub out captain Shreyas Iyer ahead of the second innings during the clash against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday, May 18. Shreyas was replaced by Harpreet Brar for the second innings as Shashank Singh assumed the role of stand-in captain for the remainder of game for Punjab. The commentators mentioned that the Punjab skipper wasn’t hundred percent and a bit under the weather.

Shreyas had batted in the first innings, but at an unusual spot of No.5 instead of coming in at No.3. The PBKS skipper gave up his preferred position to the debuting Mitchell Owen, who failed to make an impact with the bat and was dismissed for a 2-ball duck. Shreyas came in to bat during the game with his side at a tricky spot. Punjab made a quick start before they lost Priyansh Arya cheaply. Owen and Prabhsimran quickly followed back to the pavilion with 34 runs on the board in 3.1 overs.

The PBKS skipper decided to play the role of an anchor during his partnership with Nehal Wadhera, as the southpaw went after the bowlers. The duo put on a 67-run stand with Shreyas scoring 30 runs off 25 balls with 5 boundaries to his name. The PBKS skipper was dismissed by Riyan Parag as he went for an aggressive shot.
