The court has granted police custody of Shehzad for five days, instructing investigators to submit a detailed report within this period.
Saif Ali Khan Attack: Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing case has taken a new turn as the accused’s lawyer refuted police claims regarding his Bangladeshi origin. The accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested on Sunday morning from Hiranandani Estate in Thane, with authorities alleging he entered India illegally from Bangladesh six months ago.
However, Shehzad’s advocate, Sandeep Shekhane, denied these allegations, asserting that his client has been living in Mumbai with his family for over seven years. “The police have no proof that he is a Bangladeshi. Their claim that he entered the country six months ago is false,” Shekhane said, further criticizing the investigation as a violation of Section 43A for lacking proper procedures.
The court has granted police custody of Shehzad for five days, instructing investigators to submit a detailed report within this period. However, Shekhane questioned the legitimacy of the custody, citing procedural lapses.
“There are significant lapses in the case. The notice was not served according to Supreme Court guidelines. Neither the remand copy nor the FIR mentions threats to life or murder, yet these sections are being applied,” Shekhane stated. He argued that the police have not substantiated their claims with evidence.
Another lawyer for the accused, Dinesh Prajapati, also challenged the police narrative. “The police claimed he is a Bangladeshi national but have failed to present any documents proving this. They demanded custody, yet the grounds they provided were inadequate,” Prajapati argued.
The legal team maintained that nothing incriminating had been recovered from Shehzad, and they emphasized that their client is not connected to the allegations as presented by the police.
