Laurence Powell Jobs, the wife of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will attend the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and observe ‘kalpavas’ at the mega event.

Laurence Powell Jobs, the wife of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on Saturday accompanied by Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj of Niranjani Akhara, ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025 scheduled to begin in Prayagraj on January 13.

“Today, we have come to Kashi to pray to Mahadev that the Kumbh is completed without any obstacles… I came here to invite Mahadev. Our disciple Maharshi Vyasanand is with us from America. Tomorrow he is becoming a Mahamandaleshwar in my Akhara,” Swami Kailashanand told the news agency ANI.

Speaking on Laurence Jobs’ arrival for the Maha Kumbh, the priest said she was made to see the Shivling from outside of the temple as no other Hindus are permitted to touch the holy symbol of Lord Shiva. He also said Laurence will attend the Maha Kumbh and take a dip in River Ganga.

According to several reports, the billionaire widow of Steve Jobs will observe ‘kalpavas’ at the Maha Kumbh. She will be among many VIPs, VVIPs, millionaires, seers and saints to participate in the sacred Hindu festival.

She would be staying at the camp of Swami Kaliashananda, the ‘Mahamnadleshwar’ of Niranjani Akhara. Reports indicate that she will be staying at the Maha Kumbh till January 29 and will take a holy dip during the fair.

Notably, Kalpvas is an age-old practice in the Hindu tradition observed by devotees, referred to as Kalpvasis or Kalpwasis, for a month starting from Paush Purnima to Maghi Purnima. These ‘kalpavasis’ would take bath in the Ganga every day and visit the camps of different seers and saints to listen to the sermons and attend ‘bhajan and kirtan‘ during Kumbh.

Preparations are in full swing for the Maha Kumbh, which will take place from January 13 to February 26. Some 400 million pilgrims are expected at the spectacular Kumbh Mela festival in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj – billed as the largest gathering of humanity on the planet.

The main bathing rituals, known as the Shahi Snan (royal baths), will take place on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
