The stock market holiday on May 01 is because of Maharashtra Day. It is celebrated to commemorate the formation of state of Maharashtra in 1960. As both Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) are situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, thus, a market holiday will be observed.

MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) will also observe the public holiday on May 01. However, the holiday is restricted in MCX for morning session between 9 am to 5 pm. The evening session between 5 pm to 11:55 pm of MCX on May 01 will resume activities as usual without any hindrance.
