A teenager remains in hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a car in southern NSW.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was struck on Thurgooona Drive, Thurgoona – about 10 minutes outside of Albury – at about 8pm on Friday.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to Albury Hospital.

NSW Police say the teenager was then flown by helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital at about 2am on Saturday, where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man, was arrested and subjected to drug and alcohol testing.

No charges have been laid.

Police investigations are ongoing.
