A speeding customer van has slammed into a string of cars lined up at a highway toll booth in the north Philippines, killing 10 people including kids, authorities say.
More than two dozen people were injured in the multiple-vehicle incident in Tarlac area, north of Manila, at a big vacation time on May Day trip, authorities said.
The bus driver, who was among the wounded, was taken into custody and immediately told authorities that he dozed off immediately before the collision, police told reporters.
The vehicle crashed into a vehicle, which was lined up with three other cars at the burden hall.
Eight of the deceased, including children, were in the vehicle, which was pinned between the errant vehicle from behind and another vehicle in before, police said.
A pair died in a vehicle in the incidents that happened about noon in the searing summer heat, authorities said, adding that many of the wounded were bus passengers.
Motorized accidents are common in the Philippines because of poor protection of health and traffic regulations, inaccurate vehicles and irresponsible driving.
