Popular reality TV stars Jess Eva and Norm Hogan reveal they secretly split three years ago.
The former couple — who became fan favourites on The Block in 2018 — ended their long-term engagement in 2021 after an “accumulation of small things and pressures”.
In an interview with New Idea, the exes said they thought it was a bit “up ourselves to publicly announce” the separation at the time.
“One day, we were both sitting in our backyard, having a beer in front of the fire pit, and I just said, ‘Norm, I love you, but we can’t keep going like this’,” Jess said.
Norm agreed it was best to part ways.
Despite no longer being together romantically, Jess and Norm are still on great terms and even live together, just sleeping in different rooms.
“The only thing that has changed about how we feel about each other is our relationship status,” Norm said.
The parents said they were scared to tell their children — Freddie, 11 and Matilda, 8 — about their split and discussed in depth how to break the news to them.
However, to Jess and Norm’s surprise, the kids didn’t care at all.
“They ran outside to play basketball before we’d even finished explaining,” Jess said.
Jess and Norm both said they couldn’t imagine a life where the other isn’t involved in it.
“For me, a life without Norm in it isn’t one I want to live, and he feels the same.
“Our relationship might not be conventional, but it works for us.”
