Washington, July 4, 2018, after the Supreme Court upheld a ban passed by Congress over concerns about the Chinese-owned social media app, TikTok could vanish from American app stores.

The law, which was approved by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden in April, is a result of concerns raised by some eastern allies that consumer data could be passed through TikTok’s Beijing-based family business ByteDance.

ByteDance’s last day in the business is Sunday, January 19; it required him to sell TikTok in the US by that deadline. The business filed a lawsuit against the First Amendment’s protection of free speech, but the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the imminent ban and rejected those claims.

” There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a unique and expansive channel for appearance, means of commitment, and supply of community”, the judge said in a majority viewpoint.

However, Congress has determined that a divestment is necessary to address TikTok’s well-supported federal safety issues regarding its data collection techniques and connection with a foreign adversary.

Nevertheless, with the inauguration of Donald Trump as president on Monday, the phone’s fast coming remains under a cloud. Trump, who formerly supported a restrictions, changed his position during the 2024 election plan. He later submitted a simple to the judge, saying that he had called for a pause and that he opposed the ban.

In the weeks leading up to Friday’s ruling, there was rumors that Trump did order authorities to refrain from enforcing the law, but tech companies may still choose to do so in the absence of fines. Trump’s pull for attorney-general, Pam Bondi, refused to discuss what she would do about the topic during her assurance trials this year.

Trump claimed on Friday night, US day, that he had just spoken to Xi Jinping and canvassed TikTok, but he would not elaborate on what that entails.

” Both China and the USA both had a very positive experience with the phone. It is my desire that we will address many issues up, and starting immediately”, Trump posted on TruthSocial. ” We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other themes. I pledge to do everything in my power to make the world a more tranquil and secure place!

The Biden administration made it clear that it would not carry out the moratorium during its final days in power, leaving Trump to decide. But, the rules as passed by Congress and signed by the president stands.

CNN quoted a Biden administration standard:” Our place on this has been clear: TikTok may continue to operate under British rights. It will be up to the following leadership to put it into effect because of the timing of when it goes into impact over a holiday trip the day before opening.

If the restrictions were to be implemented, TikTok did not disappear from people ‘ devices. However, it wouldn’t be accessible for download and users wouldn’t be able to release it, which may cause it to decline.
