High drama unfolded at Kolkata Airport as TMC MP and lawyer-politician Kalyan Banerjee was subjected to ‘chor chor (thieves) and ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans by a group of people while addressing the media right after he visited Delhi.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (June 9). Banerjee was talking about the rebel TMC MPs, who have formed a new bloc that is expected to work closely with the ruling NDA government for the ‘development of Bengal.’ As Banerjee was criticising Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (Chief Whip of the new bloc), a group of people suddenly started raising ‘chor, chor’ and ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans.

Banerjee lost his calm following the sloganeering. However, holding a smile on his face, he approached the agitating youth and tried to get involved in a conversation. However, as the war of words escalated, Banerjee quickly resorted to an aggressive tone, claiming that Bengal’s current Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is the ‘biggest thief.’
“Suvendu Adhikari is a thief. He was seen taking Rs 5 lakh. He is the biggest thief,” Banerjee said. He was later seen shouting ‘Chor Suvendu (Suvendu Adhikari is a thief) while leaving the airport.
However, the same group of people followed him with the same slogans as he tried to get out of the airport.
This is not the first time the veteran MP from Serampore Lok Sabha was heckled by a group of people. A few days back, he was attacked near Kolkata while heading to a protest staged by the TMC workers. The mob allegedly hit him on his head.
ANGRY LOCALS ATTACK TMC WORKER’S HOUSE OVER GOVERNMENT JOB SCAM
A violent protest erupted in Gaighata, located in the North 24 Parganas district, as locals laid siege to the house of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker accused of defrauding people under the false promise of providing government jobs.
An angry crowd gheraoed the residence, demanding an immediate refund of their money while chanting “chor, chor” (thief) slogans and allegedly starting to pelt the property with eggs.
The situation escalated dramatically when a police team arrived to rescue the accused activist, identified as Suman Das. As officers attempted to escort him away from the property, the furious mob breached the security perimeter to launch a direct physical assault on Das, slapping him repeatedly and tearing off his shirt before police could finally manage to secure his extraction from the volatile scene.
