The Match 31 of the Big Bash League 2024-25 between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat saw a rare moment on the cricket pitch as fast bowler Liam Haskett’s father caught a six in the crowd hit against his son. The incident took place in the fourth over of the second innings as Heat’s Nathan McSweeney smashed Haskett for a maximum towards deep mid-wicket.

The mighty whack sent the ball way back into the crowd as Liam’s father, Lloyd Haskett took a good reverse cup catch. Upon grabbing the ball, he immediately threw it back onto the play field for the game to continue as he didn’t look too pleased with his son being hit for a six.

Haskett didn’t have a memorable Big Bash League debut as he ended up leaking 43 runs in three overs. The left-arm seamer managed to take two wickets, dismissing Michael Neser (18 off 8) and Tom Alsop (10 off 9). However, despite his poor show, Adelaide Strikers won the match by 56 runs as they bundled out Brisbane Heat for 195 in 20 overs.
Matthew Short smashes breathtaking hundred for Strikers
McSweeney was the top scorer for Heat with his knock of 43 (24) with the help of four fours and a six. Apart from him, Matt Renshaw (34 off 16) and Spencer Johnson (27 off 13) also made contributions. D’Arcy Short was the pick of the bowlers for Adelaide with figures of 4/15 in three overs while Haskett (2/43) and Lloyd Pope (2/44) picked two wickets each.
Earlier in the day, Adelaide posted a massive score of 251/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Matthew Short led his team from the front with his breathtaking century (109 off 54) while Chris Lynn (47 off 20) and Alex Ross (44* off 19) also helped to propel their team’s score beyond 250. Matthew Kuhnemann (3/50) was the pick of the bowlers for Brisbane and Mitchell Swepson (2/41) also picked up two wickets.
