Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said explosions were heard in Srinagar, along with other locations in the Union Territory mere hours after a ceasefire was announced between India and Pakistan.

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” said Abdullah on X.

In another tweet, Abdullah said air defence systems in Srinagar were activated, saying, “This is no ceasefire.”

Red streaks were seen across the sky and explosions were heard as Pakistan resorted to firing at various parts of J&K and Punjab, including Srinagar, Pathankot, Udhampur, Rajouri, and Baramulla, just a few hours after India and Pakistan agreed on a ceasefire.

At around 9 pm, blackouts were reported from Kathua, Baramulla, Srinagar, Firozpur and Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Pathankot in neighbouring Punjab. Sirens were also sounded in several of these cities.

Government sources told CNN-News18 that the Border Security Forces (BSF) has been told to retaliate to the violations strongly. The Indian Armed Forces are responding to the treacherous attack by Pakistan by using the same drones with loitering ammunition.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that India had reached a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan after Pakistan’s DGMO reached out to New Delhi and all military action was halted. This came after an unexpected announcement from US President Donald Trump, who said the ceasefire was reached “in a long night of talks mediated by the United States”.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi tagged Trump in a post on X, saying, “Pakistan is nonsense not a country with common sense. Just FYI.”

Tensions between India and Pakistan increased after terrorists linked to Lashkar-affiliated terror outfit The Resistance Front (TRF) gunned down 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, triggering widespread outrage and global condemnation.

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, comprising airstrikes that targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The mission was a success, with several terror camps demolished and high-profile terrorists eliminated.

Pakistan chose to escalate the matter by launching brazen attacks on Indian military sites and civilians, but they were given an effective response by the Indian Armed Forces, who breached Pakistani air defences and struck eight military bases.
