Around 1.08 crore voters are likely to be excluded from Karnataka’s first draft electoral roll, after the Election Commission completed its house-to-house enumeration exercise under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. The draft roll will be published on August 24.
The SIR exercise, which began on June 30, saw Booth Level Officers complete door-to-door visits across Karnataka. According to the latest figures, 5,54,32,314 enumeration forms were distributed, of which 4,46,00,369 have been digitised.

The enumeration exercise identified 1,08,31,945 voters under the ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate and Others) category, indicating voters who could not be matched or verified during the exercise.
Among these, 15,28,985 voters were found untraceable, while 65,61,607 had permanently shifted from their registered addresses. The exercise also identified 16,38,839 deceased voters and 7,07,792 duplicate or fake voters.
Another 3,94,722 voters were identified under other categories.
The findings are expected to form the basis of Karnataka’s first draft electoral roll, which will be published on August 24.
The publication of the draft roll will open a month-long window for voters and political parties to challenge exclusions and seek corrections. Claims and objections can be filed from August 24 to September 23.
The Election Commission will subsequently examine the claims and objections before publishing the final electoral roll on October 27.
The identification of more than one crore voters under various categories does not by itself mean that all of them will be removed from the final electoral roll. Those affected will have an opportunity to submit claims and objections after the draft roll is published.
The SIR exercise is aimed at verifying the eligibility of voters and cleaning up the electoral rolls by identifying voters who have died, permanently shifted, are untraceable or are listed more than once.
