Ten years after Neeraj Chopra won India’s maiden men’s javelin gold at the World U20 Championships, Ashish Yadav has followed in his footsteps with a silver medal in Oregon.
Yadav produced a best throw of 74.09m in the men’s javelin final to finish second. South Africa’s Jan-Hendrik Heymans won gold with a championship-leading 80.50m, while Dominica’s Addison James took bronze with 73.89m.

Yadav’s silver makes him only the second Indian man to win a javelin medal at the World U20 Championships, after Chopra’s historic triumph in Bydgoszcz in 2016. Chopra had thrown a world U20 record 86.48m to claim gold, a mark that remains the championship record.
India also had T. Dharanidharan in the final, with his best effort of 72.35m earning sixth place.
Ashish’s podium finish gives India another significant milestone in the event that has become synonymous with Chopra’s name.
