A 12-year-old boy allegedly kidnapped his nine-month-old niece from beside her sleeping mother and raped her after watching pornographic content, police said in a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur.

The accused, who is the infant’s maternal uncle, allegedly took the child away from her home in the middle of the night and abandoned her in an injured and unconscious state inside a tin shed in a nearby field. The girl was found the next morning with serious injuries, following which she was rushed to a hospital.

The incident took place in the Gulriha police station area of Gorakhpur. According to the survivour’s mother, she was sleeping with her nine-month-old daughter on Friday night when she woke up around 2 am and realised that the child was missing.

The family searched for the infant throughout the night, but their efforts yielded no result. On Saturday morning, villagers found the child lying unconscious in the tin shed located nearly half a kilometre away from her house. Police were informed after locals noticed injuries on the child.

The police immediately took the girl for medical examination and admitted her to a hospital. Her condition is currently stated to be stable.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage, inspected the crime scene and questioned people in the area. The probe led them to suspect the child’s maternal uncle.

According to police, the accused was questioned and allegedly confessed to taking the child away while under the influence of alcohol and assaulting her in a nearby field. He was later taken into custody.

Superintendent of Police (City) Nimesh Patil said the child is undergoing treatment and further legal action is being taken in the case.
