14-year-old girl selected for international space mission ‘ShakthiSAT’

Mahima Rajput, a Class 10 student, has been selected from India for the international space mission ‘ShakthiSAT’, which will see participation from students of 108 countries.

Speaking about her selection, Mahima said she was informed about the mission by her school principal through her guidance teacher, after which she was registered for the programme.

She said the training process included 21 modules and 365 lessons that helped students understand the basics of science, satellites and space missions. “The modules cleared our basic concepts about science and satellites and helped us a lot,” she said.

Mahima said the students were also trained in how satellites are made as part of the mission programme involving participants from 108 countries.

ABOUT SHAKTHISAT

ShakthiSAT is an international student space mission that brings together participants from 108 countries and introduces them to space science, satellite building and mission planning.

According to details shared by Mahima Rajput, the selected students will travel to Delhi on August 23, where they will take part in building satellites as part of the mission.

The programme includes training through 21 modules and 365 lessons covering the basics of science, satellites and space technology.

As part of the mission plan, one satellite is expected to land on the Moon’s surface, while another will revolve in the Moon’s orbit.

The mission is scheduled for launch in October and is aimed at giving school students practical exposure to satellite development and international space collaboration.
