A mob of around 200 people attacked a police team with stones and helped a criminal escape shortly after his arrest in Bihar’s Vaishali district, authorities said.
A video of the incident is also doing the rounds on social media.
According to police, they had received information of a man wanted in several cases, including a weapons-related case was present in Mahnar area.

Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot and arrested the accused.
Soon after, a large group of people gathered at the location and attacked the police team with stones. Amid the chaos, the accused was freed from police custody and escaped.
Police also claimed that members of the group later fired several rounds at the house of a local watchman in an attempt to intimidate him.
A senior police officer said a case has been registered and raids are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
