Police said Suhail allegedly argued with local residents who tried to open the car door after the crash. He reportedly told them that his father would take care of everything.
The vehicle was registered in his father’s name, police said, adding that Suhail holds a valid driving licence.
DRIVER SUSPECTED TO BE DRUNK
Ernakulam Rural Superintendent of Police K S Sudarsan told reporters that a forensic examination of the car was underway to check whether any intoxicating substances were present inside the vehicle.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver is suspected to have been drunk at the time of the accident. However, the suspicion will have to be confirmed by blood test reports, which are awaited, the officer said.
Police have registered a case of culpable homicide in connection with the deaths.
CCTV-LIKE VISUALS SHOW HIGH-SPEED IMPACT
Visuals of the accident aired by television channels showed the Mini Cooper approaching at high speed before crashing into the scooter, which was travelling along the extreme left side of a wide road.
The impact destroyed the two-wheeler, with pieces of the scooter scattered across the accident site.
Sudarsan said police patrolling and other preventive measures would be strengthened in the area near the airport to prevent accidents caused by overspeeding.
