Three Indian nationals injured in the attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh are in intensive care but stable, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said on Monday. The Embassy also confirmed that one Indian national had died, while two others were admitted to regular hospital wards and the remaining injured Indians had been discharged.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Yousuf, a 46-year-old Hyderabad-based IT professional who was travelling with his family for the Umrah pilgrimage. His wife and their three children were also injured in the incident.

Yousuf, a resident of Hyderabad’s Mehdipatnam area, was at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport with his wife and three children on October 10. The family was waiting near a check-in kiosk before travelling to Madinah when a projectile struck the airport premises at around 3 pm local time.

Yousuf sustained serious injuries and later died. His wife, two sons and daughter were also injured and were receiving treatment at a hospital in Riyadh.

The incident came amid a series of attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. A fresh projectile strike hit a passenger terminal at Riyadh airport on Sunday, a day after an earlier missile attack. The Saudi-led coalition fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen reported the latest strike, while the Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation also confirmed that King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, was targeted on Sunday evening, October 11. The announcement followed a claim by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels that they had attacked the airport.
