Four people, including one adult and three children, were reportedly killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, with the suspected gunman also found dead at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was included in the reported death toll.
The incident was reported at around 1 pm local time at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, a city of around 100,000 people in central Oregon, about 175 miles (280 km) southeast of Portland.

According to the Bend Police Department, the first emergency call indicated that an unidentified man had fired shots into a car at the school. Officers arrived at the scene within seconds and found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound.
Police said the suspect may have been shot by an armed bystander. However, Sheila Miller, a spokesperson for the Bend Police Department, told reporters that investigators had yet to establish who fired the shot that killed him.
Miller said at least two victims had been taken to a hospital, but she did not have information about their conditions at the time. In a subsequent statement posted online, police confirmed that there were multiple victims and that children were among them.
CNN and CBS News, citing law enforcement sources, reported that one adult and three children had been killed in the shooting. Authorities had not immediately clarified whether those reported deaths included the suspected gunman.
Silver Rail Elementary School caters to children from kindergarten through fifth grade, generally between the ages of five and 11. The school has approximately 450 students and 40 staff members, Miller said.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting, the identities of the victims and the sequence of events that resulted in the suspect’s death remained under investigation.
