A mob allegedly stormed a farmhouse in Gurugram’s Mahenderwara village, assaulted the caretaker and his family, vandalised the property and occupied it before police arrested 13 people in connection with the incident, officials said on Friday.

Police said the incident took place on Wednesday night when more than 50 people arrived at the farmhouse in trucks, tractors and cars and forcibly entered the premises.

The intruders allegedly attacked the caretaker and his family, threatened them with dire consequences and damaged the caretaker’s quarters. Women present at the property were also allegedly subjected to harassment.

Investigators said the group then ransacked the farmhouse, damaged CCTV cameras and removed household goods and other valuables from the premises. According to the complaint filed by the owner, the accused subsequently took illegal possession of the property.

An FIR was registered at Bhondsi police station after the owner approached the police. Acting on the complaint, police raided the farmhouse on Thursday and arrested 13 people who were allegedly found occupying the property.

During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they had acted on the instructions of Vipin, a Gurugram-based property dealer.

Police said the group had arrived in tractors, trucks and other vehicles, assaulted the caretaker, his family and even their pet dog before loading stolen items onto a tractor.

Police said three air conditioners, a refrigerator, a washing machine, a lawn mower and several other articles were recovered from the residence and office of the main accused in the Dev Nagar Part-2 area.

Officials said Vipin is absconding and efforts are underway to locate him and identify others involved in the case.

Further investigation is continuing, and police are expected to make additional arrests as they examine the wider conspiracy behind the alleged forcible occupation of the farmhouse.
