A man has been arrested after he allegedly drove his ute at officers before ramming a police station.
Police allege officers were patrolling Market St in Mudgee on foot when a ute drove at them about 1.30pm on Friday.
The officers tried to stop the driver, but he fled then allegedly drove at another police officer before ramming a ute into the front of the Mudgee Police Station on Market St, about 270km northwest of Sydney.
Police arrested the male driver, 67, and took him into custody at the station where inquiries continue.
A police spokesman said no injuries were reported during the incident.
“Contingencies are being put in place to meet the needs of the local community and Mudgee Police Station remains contactable,” a spokesman said.
7News reports officers had gathered at the station to celebrate the retirement of Detective Senior Constable Scott Wells and police are investigating if a march was being targeted.
Witnesses allege they saw the driver take off down the road then returned moments later.
“(He was) getting followed by a detective, and then all of a sudden just comes flying into the cop shop here,” one told 7News.
Another man named Michael was sitting inside the police station when the ute came “straight in” the building.
“One of the constables grabbed the spikes as I came through the building, I was sitting on the chairs,” Michael said.
“I was lucky I was sitting there, I only got a bit of scratch.
“I got it all checked out, I was all clear, everybody was alright, no one didn’t get hurt.”
