Top jockey Tommy Berry will combine with local trainer Brad Widdup in a bid for success with the resuming Mind Ya Bizz in Thursday’s Family Funday 19 July F&M Maiden Plate at Hawkesbury.
Mind Ya Bizz has had four starts and after being placed in the first two runs at Gosford and Hawkesbury, she ran fourth at Gosford and Canterbury before being spelled.
“She’s a nice filly that’s shown us plenty in her lightly raced career to date,” said Widdup.
“There’s been merit in each of her four runs and she’s had two good trials in preparation for her return to racing.
“Tommy [Berry] hops on for his first race ride on her and it does look a nice race for her to break through in.”
Widdup will have two other runners in action at Hawkesbury with Yeszem in the De Bortoli Wines Midway Maiden Handicap (1400m) and Gandalf in the Elite Sand & Soil 5YO&Up Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).
Tyler Schiller will partner both Yeszem and Gandalf with Widdup expecting both to perform well.
“Yeszem ran well to be placed in her first two starts back from a spell at Gosford and Kembla Grange, and then she ran sixth at Parkes when she led,” Widdup said.
“She should get a good run from the gate and she can bounce back.
“Gandalf resumes from a spell in his race, and he won his maiden at Hawkesbury last year. He’s had a trial leading into Thursday’s race and ran second in that behind Shaggy. He should be in the thick of things.”
Berry, who enjoyed success at Warwick Farm on Wednesday with multiple winners, has a small but select book of rides at Hawkesbury in addition to Mind Ya Bizz, with the mounts awaiting on the Chris Waller trained Donatello in the HRC Motel Maiden Plate (1800m) and the Bjorn Baker prepared Abandonment in the XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap (1500m).
Both Donatello and Abandonment are former New Zealanders with Donatello having had two starts since arriving in Sydney. Abandonment is making his Australian debut on the back of two barrier trials.
